As a small business owner, I understand what comes with starting a business. Like what I have mentioned in my blog post from months ago it’s not very easy. From what I have gathered from the businesses I worked with, one of the things that we have in common is the crazy expenses we have to look after while trying to make money at the same time. Where do we find the balance? 

For those of you who have a keen eye you probably have spotted my weaknesses already as soon as I started this business. I most definitely am aware of those things and I am working my business to the point that I am able to fix them. How can I fix those weaknesses? I need to constantly improve and, of course, spend some money! I know I can’t do it alone.  I am not ashamed of this because over time I want to look back and see the improvements and the hard work that’s put into it. It’s more rewarding that way!  It’s okay if takes time. As the saying goes, “Rome wasn’t built in a day!”

A small business like mine is like a growing plant. It needs to be watered regularly, get the proper humidity, proper sunlight. Too much water? Too much sunlight? Bad placement? It will not last long.  It’s smart to set limits and boundaries to have full control of a business. But business owners also have the responsibility of providing the proper care that their business needs.


What does your business need now? What can you set aside for later?  It doesn’t matter if we put aside something as long as we go back to it and make sure that it’s also well taken care of. 

Branding is easily one of the overlooked things, especially for small businesses. Creatives are often asked, “Why do you charge like that for something so simple?” or “It takes you that many hours for doing that?”  Well, let me tell you it’s not that simple. 

Photographers, for example, don’t just go to the location, point and shoot, then send you the photos. If you are thinking of investing in good quality photos you have to put in consideration the amount of time that they spend taking photos as well as the parts you don’t see – editing the photos. It takes time for them to quality check the photos that they will give you and make sure it’s the reaches the high standard they set for themselves. Same goes with creating marketing materials like logos, business cards, websites, etc.  It takes a lot of work behind the curtains!

For my business, I am constantly trying to look for ways to improve the quality of my services while keeping my rates low. I always aim to make my clients feel comfortable with their investment at the same time to be able to provide a high-quality service I can give.
